| Gregg Cheser grew up in San Antonio, Texas during the Sixties and then moved to the Texas Hill County community of Fredericksburg in the Seventies where the Hill County provided the inspiration for many of the songs on Gregg's current release, Sweet Hills. In 1978, Gregg formed the Pronto Brothers Band that included Stan Ashlock on Bass, Billy Burdett on Drums, Danny Hawk on Pedal Steel Guitar and Electric Guitar, and Jerry Strom on Harmonica. During the late Seventies and early Eighties this hard driving band with roots in the country blues of Hank Williams was a mainstay in the quintessential Texas honky-tonks of Greune Hall, Luckenbach Hall, Pat's Hall, and the Cabaret in addition to music festivals across Texas. Then in 1989, the original members of the band played their final performance together at the Texas Folklife Festival in San Antonio. This year, four of the original members returned to record Sweet Hills and recapture the energy and honesty inherent in the music of Gregg Cheser and the Pronto Brothers. Listen to some of the songs and see if you agree. |
